Our Process

VIDEO PRODUCTION

No matter the scale or content of your video, Octopi Media approaches each project with a clear four step process: pre-production, production, post-production and delivery. Each step of the process involves key milestones and deliverables designed to help you get the most out of your video project. Providing clear documentation and expectations at each stage allows for a clear dialogue between our clients and our team. Our goal is to deliver videos which we are proud to share as our own while exceeding your expectations and impressing your viewers. To achieve this we strongly believe in the importance of a clear and straightforward video production process.

Pre-production

Pre-production is the brainstorming stage of the video production process. This stage begins with a video concept meeting between the client and our team where key aspects of the video are discussed and ideas are put to paper. Elements such as the target demographic, message, and video style are determined in this stage. Finally the creation of scripts, video treatments, filming schedules and any other preparation work is completed to ensure production goes off without a hitch.

Production

Lights, Camera, Action. Production is the stage of the video production process in which all the capturing and recording of media occurs. This could include interviews, scenes, live events and much more. Depending on the needs of your project, the production stage could include several cameras, a professional lighting setup, hair & makeup, set decoration and audio. For most projects, the production stage is condensed into consecutive days while grouping filming locations together to prevent excessive transportation and setup time.

Post-production

During post-production, all the hard work that went into the pre-production and production stages of the project begins to show. Post-production starts with offline editing which includes all the cutting of the recorded footage into a coherent story. This is completed with a roughcut and finecut of the video which is usually reviewed by the client. After client approval of the finecut, online editing work can start. Online editing includes colour correction, supplemental graphics, audio editing and any other visual effects or final tweeks to the project.

Delivery

The final stage of the video production process is delivery. At this stage the finecut of the video is rendered and sent to the client for approval. Once approved, a high definition render is completed and the final product is delivered to the client in the format of their choice. With the final product in hand, the client can share their newly created video with the world and watch the results come in.

Corporate videos include training and instructional videos, explainer videos, progress reports, testimonials and much more. As with any of our projects, our four step video production process is designed to help you get the most out of your video production project. Each of the four stages are broken down into subcategories outlining key steps and milestones for a common corporate video project. Having a clear understanding of each stage and the tasks surrounding it will give you an assurance that the project is staying on track and on budget.

WONDERING ABOUT OUR VIDEO PRODUCTION PROCESS?

Frequently Asked Questions

A finecut is the second step in the offline editing process and includes a further refined assembly of the video’s story. The finecut serves as a final chance for the client to provide notes on the story and flow of the video before picture lock and the transfer into online editing.

Offline editing encompases the first portion of the post-production workflow including, organizing, syncing and cutting footage together into a coherent story. Offline editing does not include any graphics, colour or audio work.

Fun fact: the term offline refers to the common practice of using proxy files instead of the raw camera files to complete the cutting. The practice of using proxies requires less computing power and can significantly speed up the cutting process.

Online editing encompases the second portion of the post-production workflow and is completed after offline editing. Online editing involves finalizing the video through the addition of colour grading, audio mixing, graphics, special effects and any other finishing touches.
